Experience the Future: Workshops at THI FUTURELAB

Gaming, social media, hydraulic engineering, or visions of the future - the THI FUTURELAB gets to the heart of science and offers schoolchildren exciting hands-on workshops.

How are computer games created? On Monday, 10 February, we will enter the world of game development. Participants aged 16 and over will learn how to make their own game using the Unity Engine. This workshop combines programming, simulation, and artificial intelligence to provide a practical introduction to computer science.

What happens in the background of TikTok and Instagram? On Tuesday, 18 February, Professor Sina Huber from the Data Science degree program will give an insight into the mechanisms and algorithms behind social media. A workshop for anyone aged between 12 and 19 who wants to know how maths controls the digital world.

What future is desirable? On Wednesday, 19 February, participants aged between 12 and 19 will develop scenarios and visions for the world of tomorrow together with Dr. Gerhard Schönhofer in the Future Lab. The concept is based on the UNESCO initiative ‘Futures Literacy’, which promotes future skills for the 21st century.

How does a dam withstand the forces of nature? On Tuesday, 25 February, this workshop will show how modern surveying technology can help. Young people aged 16 and over will create a digital twin of a dam and immerse themselves in the basics of hydraulic engineering.
