What is a First Responder Drone?

The First Responder Drone (FReD) concept involves an automated drone that can quickly and easily be dispatched to emergency situations, such as fires, car accidents, and missing persons, by emergency services during the critical first minutes.

Currently, there is a significant information gap, as dispatchers often lack critical and accurate information to provide to firefighters and rescue teams, forcing them to reassess the situation with false or incomplete information.

Concept

The First Responder Drones (FReDs) will be strategically located at designated drone ports. After completing a successful operation or losing signal communication, the drone will automatically return to its base.

In situations where human intervention is necessary, a human operator can take control of the drone using simple and intuitive controls.

Research Objectives

Our research goal is to closely study all relevant stakeholders, including dispatchers, firefighters, and drone pilots, in order to gather the necessary requirements and analyze their tasks in detail.

This will enable us to design, evaluate, and develop an operational system for FReD that can be seamlessly integrated into their current environment, specifically the Emergency Dispatch Centers.
