Prof Alexandre Kupka da Silva from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Florianópolis (Brazil) is a guest at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
The "2LIFEBAT" project is a collaborative German-Brazilian research network focussing on robust, solar-powered storage systems with second-life batteries. The network includes the two Brazilian universities Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM), Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Instituto Federal de Santa Catarina (IFSC) as well as the German University of Duisburg-Essen and the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences.
This initiative is made possible by the support and funding of the DAAD as part of the "German-Brazilian Research Cooperation in the Energy Sector - NoPa 2.0" programme.
We are delighted that Prof. Alexandre Kupka da Silva from UFSC visited THI for a research exchange from 27 to 29 November 2023.
His activities with us on site included:
- Exploring research topics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the CARISSMA Institute for Electric, Connected and Safe Mobility (C-ECOS) and the Institute for New Energy Systems (INES).
- The exploration of possible research collaborations between UFSC and THI.
- As well as his presentation entitled "Exploiting complex heat transfer phenomena: machines that learn boiling, supercritical working fluids, and self-optimising thermal systems" as part of the 2LIFEBAT lecture series.
This exchange not only broadened our horizons, but also paved the way for innovative breakthroughs in sustainable energy solutions. We will stay tuned.
