Welcome, Prof. Christian Nagel!

Prof. Dr. Christian Nagel

We welcome Prof Dr Christian Nagel to our faculty! Prof Nagel most recently worked as an IT architect for artificial intelligence, data analysis, big data and business intelligence for the City of Munich (LHM). There he was deputy head of the Data & Innovation staff unit, consisting of the two teams AI Competence Center and Innovation Lab, and was involved in creating the organisational and technological framework conditions that enable Munich's city administration - as Germany's Smart City #1 (Smart City Index) - to also play a leading role in the application of artificial intelligence. Previously, he worked as a data scientist for the LHM health department, where he helped to establish the municipal medical care management system and was responsible for data management and statistics during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof Dr Nagel is a statistician and economist. As part of his doctorate at the University of Passau, he focussed on the success factors of disruptive innovations, among other things. In statistics, he is interested in generative methods and spatial statistics. His research has appeared in internationally recognised journals (e.g. Journal of Business Research, Creativity and Innovation Management, Science of the Total Environment).

Prof Dr Nagel sees machine learning and innovation theory as closely interlinked in the field of applied artificial intelligence. His aim is to teach students how they can meet challenges in business and society with innovative AI approaches in order to actively shape the digital transformation.
Welcome to THI and the Faculty of Computer Science. We look forward to our future together!
